Artist Statement

As a choreographer, I connect movement to deep mental, emotional perspectives and states of being.

Not always striving for a specific style of dance, I choreograph with the focus of telling a story and to discover new pathways to express long-stored emotions. I choreograph to not only release from my mental tensions but to get lost in the artistic possibilites of dance. Through the development of each process, I relate life lessons and ideas of healing into my choreographic journeys. In order to create these connections, I research sociology and psychology relative to my process, pull from personal journal reflections, and the testimonies of dancers that I collaborate with. I am drawn to dancers who strive for authenticity in their artistry: ones who do not shy from vurlnerability and bringing their life stories into the dance space. I believe in creating a safe space for dancers and emphasizing that they are more than just bodies in the space, they are hearts, souls, and minds who possess great power in their individuality. Finding my own healing through dance, my goal as a choreographer is to create healing experiences for dancers and audiences alike. I want my work to inspire others to explore the deep feelings, experiences, mental states, and inlfuences that make up who they are and to find their own freedom in tenderly embracing them. I hold great value in the bridge of human existance that is art, and strive to be an active listener and giver in community to be a part of creating these powerful connections.
